Car Hire and Rentals

If you are planning a Welsh holiday and want to travel outside of the major cities, then you will want to hire a car because there is very limited public transportation outside of the urban areas. Exploring the Welsh countryside via car is an adventure you will never forget, so it is well worth doing. Many well known companies provide cars for hire in Wales, including Enterprise, Budget, Europcar, Avis, and more. Be aware, though, that car hire can be a bit expensive in Wales and rental cars tend to run out quickly during peak travel times, so it is highly advisable to make your rental car reservation well in advance. Keep in mind, too, the terrain where you plan to drive and select a car that can accommodate the conditions you are likely to encounter.

Car hire requirements generally include a valid national driver's license from your home country as well as current proof of insurance. Before starting your holiday in Wales it is a good idea to remember the following:

  • Drive on the left side of the road
  • Learn the common road signs you may see
  • Acquaint yourself with local speed limits and driving customs

Your car rental company should be able to provide comprehensive written materials about driving in Wales.
